Before acting Ekta was a producer with a company named Wizcraft. In Wizcraft she assisted Nach Baliye Season 4. But it was her passion to become an actor. During her production career she was willing to learn how the things work in the industry. Ekta has done Diploam in performing Art from Delhi. Tere Mere Sapne was her first show as an actress and she was chosen from audition. "With in 24 hours they called me and informed me that I was selected for the show", Ekta explains. She played role of a simple girl in the show whose gauna going to happen. After her gauna she gets to know facts about her in laws and what she feels when her husband decides to shift to Mumbai from a small village. "it is basically a story about migration.”, she continues. According to her living in Delhi or Mumbai is nearly same. Ekta does not have any acting background and in her entire family she is the first person to try her luck in acting.
In July 2011 she filed a molestation complaints against her driver Sajid. Ekta alleged that Sajid barged her into her Mira Road home and molested her. Ekta said that she was uncomfortable with Sadij and had terminated him on July 15. The driver is now absconding. Driver Sajid was assigned by the lead of Tere Mere Sapne Sajid Tiwari and production unit three and half month back.
