Young girl Divya Setpal is allegedly killed by her own brother because she secretly married a boy from another caste. In court, the defense lawyer tries to prove that she was innocent and that the case was actually a suicide, not murder. According to him, Divya secretly married Naveen Duttvedi, but later realized that she had made a mistake and therefore ended her life.

The most suspicious aspect of the case is that Divya’s parents cremated her body immediately after her death, claiming she died from a heart attack. The truth begins to surface when social worker Virendra, who had helped the couple get married, receives an anonymous call informing him that Divya was murdered. Virendra approaches the police and urges them to investigate whether it was a murder or suicide.

परिचय:

“ऑनर किलिंग” यानी “इज़्ज़त के नाम पर हत्या” भारतीय समाज का एक कड़वा सच है। हाल ही में हरियाणा के पानीपत जिले से आई किरण और रोहताश की घटना ने पूरे देश को झकझोर कर रख दिया।

क्या हुआ था?

किरण और रोहताश एक-दूसरे से प्यार करते थे और उन्होंने परिवार की इच्छा के विरुद्ध जाकर शादी की थी। दोनों अलग-अलग जातियों से थे — और यही बात परिवार वालों को स्वीकार नहीं थी। शादी के कुछ समय बाद ही किरण की उसके परिजनों द्वारा हत्या कर दी गई। इसे ऑनर किलिंग कहा गया, लेकिन वास्तव में यह जातिगत अहंकार और सामाजिक दबाव से प्रेरित पूर्व-नियोजित हत्या थी।

समाज की भूमिका:

यह मामला केवल एक व्यक्तिगत त्रासदी नहीं है, बल्कि समाज में मौजूद जातिवाद, पितृसत्ता और रूढ़िवादी सोच का प्रतिबिंब भी है। ऑनर किलिंग तब होती है जब परिवार को लगता है कि प्रेम संबंध या शादी से उनकी ‘इज़्ज़त’ को ठेस पहुँची है। इसी तथाकथित सम्मान के नाम पर बेटियों और उनके साथियों की हत्या कर दी जाती है।इस मामले में पुलिस ने किरण के भाई को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है। आगे क्या हुआ, यह आपको वीडियो देखने पर पता चलेगा।

“Honour killing” — the term itself is a contradiction. There is no honour in killing, yet such incidents continue to occur in many parts of India. The recent Kiran and Rohtash case from Panipat, Haryana, once again exposed the harsh realities of casteism and patriarchal thinking.What happened?
Kiran and Rohtash were deeply in love and got married against their families’ wishes. They belonged to different castes, and that alone became the reason for Kiran’s murder. Within days of their marriage, Kiran’s family allegedly killed her in cold blood, claiming it was necessary to protect the family’s honour.

Beyond the Crime — A Social Mirror:

This is not merely a crime story; it is a reflection of how deeply rooted caste prejudice and toxic patriarchy continue to influence society. Honour killings often stem from the belief that a daughter’s independent choice in love or marriage brings shame upon the family. The horrifying response is often violence against the couple.

While the police have arrested the accused, the larger question still remains — will arrests alone bring change? Until society truly accepts love and personal freedom as basic rights, honour killings may continue to occur.
