In 2006, insurance agent Pankaj Chawda and Reena Nathani, residents of Krishna Nagar, were deeply in love. Despite belonging to different communities and facing opposition from Reena’s family, the couple decided to marry on their own terms. They secretly got married at a Hanuman temple and later registered their marriage at the registrar’s office.
After their wedding, the newly married couple traveled to Udaipur and Jaipur for their honeymoon, where they spent nearly two weeks together. Everything appeared normal and the marriage seemed to have begun on a happy note.
However, shortly after returning home, Reena went to stay with her parents for a few days. What happened during that time shocked everyone. Reena suddenly filed an FIR against her husband Pankaj and his friend Lokesh Sharma, who had also been her teacher.
According to Reena, Lokesh had sexually assaulted her, and later Pankaj used that incident to blackmail her into marriage. She claimed that the marriage had not been voluntary and that she had been forced into the relationship.
As soon as the complaint was registered, police arrested Lokesh Sharma. Fearing arrest, Pankaj initially absconded but surrendered before the authorities a few days later.
Pankaj strongly denied the allegations. He maintained that he and Reena had been in a long-term relationship and had willingly married because their families were opposed to their inter-caste relationship. According to him, the temple marriage, legal registration, and honeymoon had all taken place with Reena’s full consent.
He also stated that during their honeymoon there had been no indication that Reena intended to accuse him of any wrongdoing. The conflicting versions of events left investigators with difficult questions and transformed the case into a complex legal and emotional battle.
साल 2006 में कृष्णा नगर के रहने वाले इंश्योरेंस एजेंट पंकज चावड़ा और रीना नथानी एक-दूसरे से प्रेम करते थे। दोनों अलग-अलग जातियों से थे और इसी वजह से रीना का परिवार इस रिश्ते के खिलाफ था। परिवार के विरोध के बावजूद दोनों ने अपनी मर्जी से हनुमान मंदिर में विवाह कर लिया और बाद में अपनी शादी को कानूनी रूप से भी पंजीकृत कराया।
शादी के बाद दोनों उदयपुर और जयपुर घूमने गए, जहां उन्होंने लगभग दो सप्ताह साथ बिताए। सब कुछ सामान्य लग रहा था और ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था कि दोनों ने अपने जीवन की नई शुरुआत कर ली है।
लेकिन घर लौटने के कुछ समय बाद रीना अपने मायके चली गई। वहीं पहुंचकर उसने अचानक अपने पति पंकज और उसके मित्र लोकेश शर्मा के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज करा दी। लोकेश उसका शिक्षक भी रह चुका था।
रीना का आरोप था कि लोकेश ने उसके साथ दुष्कर्म किया था और उसके बाद पंकज ने उसी बात का फायदा उठाकर उसे ब्लैकमेल किया तथा शादी के लिए मजबूर किया।
एफआईआर दर्ज होते ही पुलिस ने तुरंत कार्रवाई करते हुए लोकेश शर्मा को गिरफ्तार कर लिया। दूसरी ओर पंकज गिरफ्तारी के डर से फरार हो गया, हालांकि कुछ दिनों बाद उसने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया।
पंकज ने सभी आरोपों को सिरे से खारिज कर दिया। उसका कहना था कि वह और रीना लंबे समय से प्रेम संबंध में थे और परिवार के विरोध के कारण दोनों ने अपनी मर्जी से शादी की थी।
उसने यह भी दावा किया कि मंदिर विवाह, कानूनी पंजीकरण और हनीमून की पूरी यात्रा रीना की सहमति से हुई थी। ऐसे में रीना द्वारा लगाए गए आरोपों ने पूरे मामले को रहस्यमय बना दिया और पुलिस के सामने सच्चाई तक पहुंचने की बड़ी चुनौती खड़ी कर दी।
