In 2012, the peaceful South Goa village of Velim was shaken by the killing of senior citizen Eliza Rozario inside her own home. At the time, her husband Jacob Rozario had gone to nearby Chinchinim with his grandson Peter to buy lovebirds. Investigators discovered that nearly ₹3 lakh in cash and jewellery worth around ₹6–6.5 lakh were missing from a locker. Strangely, there were no obvious signs of forced entry or a chaotic burglary.
The post-mortem indicated that Eliza had been strangled. A neighbouring boy provided a crucial detail: he had noticed a white Maruti 800 leaving around the suspected time of the crime. Police began checking registered cars, family phone records and the movements of everyone connected to the Rozarios. The evidence increasingly suggested careful planning by someone who seemingly knew where the locker keys were kept and what valuables were inside.
For days, investigators struggled to connect the scattered clues. Then information surfaced about jewellery linked to the robbery, leading police toward Xavier Carvalho, suspicious phone contacts and a white Maruti 800 that had already appeared in their inquiries. What initially looked like a robbery was becoming far more complicated. The biggest mystery remained: who knew the Rozario household well enough to plan everything so precisely, and why was Eliza’s home specifically chosen?

पोस्टमार्टम से संकेत मिला कि एलिजा की गला घोंटकर हत्या की गई थी। एक पड़ोसी लड़के ने घटना के आसपास सफेद मारुति 800 को घर से जाते देखने की बात कही। पुलिस ने कार मालिकों, परिवार के फोन रिकॉर्ड और सदस्यों की लोकेशन खंगालनी शुरू की। शुरुआती जांच बार-बार ऐसे व्यक्ति की ओर इशारा कर रही थी, जिसे घर, लॉकर की चाबी और उसमें रखी रकम की जानकारी थी।
कई सुराग बेनतीजा लगने के बाद चोरी हुए आभूषणों से जुड़ी एक नई जानकारी सामने आई। पुलिस की जांच जेवियर कारवालो, एक सफेद मारुति 800 और कुछ संदिग्ध संपर्कों तक पहुंचने लगी। अब सवाल सिर्फ यह नहीं था कि एलिजा को किसने मारा, बल्कि यह भी था कि रोजारियो परिवार के घर को इतनी सटीक योजना के साथ आखिर क्यों चुना गया था।
