At start of the episode Mohan explains the duo about Tarantula Spider Serum (or extracts) which is a well known drug of America. The drug directly impacts to a person’s nervous system and makes him cantankerous. It also hurts his health.
Story plot is 1933.
The story begins when Ajit’s old friend, Dr. Mohan, approaches Byomkesh Bakshi with a strange and troubling case. His patient, Nandulal Babu, is a wealthy but extremely ill-tempered old man who is bedridden and physically weak. Despite his condition, he is addicted to a rare and dangerous substance known as “spider venom extract”—a toxic stimulant that can be deadly over time.
The real mystery, however, is not the addiction itself—but how he continues to obtain the poison.
Nandulal cannot move freely, his room is constantly monitored by family members, and no outsider is allowed near him. The doctor has strictly prohibited the substance, and the entire household is on alert. Yet somehow, despite all precautions, he continues to consume it regularly.
Ajit visits the house to observe the situation firsthand. Nandulal Babu turns out to be rude, abusive, and deeply unpleasant. He spends most of his time lying in bed, scribbling nonsensical and often vulgar things on stacks of paper using red and black ink pens. Papers are scattered all around him, and every week, new blank sheets arrive for him via registered post.
At first, suspicion falls on the people around him—his sons, his wife, even the servants. Then attention shifts to a woman named Rebecca, to whom Nandulal regularly sends money. But none of these leads provide a convincing explanation.
Gradually, Byomkesh begins to notice small but crucial details.
Why are blank sheets of paper being sent every week through registered mail…
when there is already an abundance of paper in the room?
And another odd detail—
Nandulal’s tongue is always red…
even though he does not chew betel (paan).
This is where the mystery starts to unravel.
Byomkesh realizes that the method is hidden in plain sight—something that everyone sees, yet no one questions. The delivery system is cleverly disguised as something ordinary, routine, and completely harmless.
To test his theory, a simple step is taken—
Nandulal’s red-ink fountain pen is removed.
And almost immediately, his behavior changes. He becomes restless, agitated, and desperate—showing clear signs of withdrawal.
Now it becomes evident that the poison was never hidden in obvious places like food, medicine, or packages…
but in something far more unexpected.
As the truth begins to surface, one thing becomes clear—
this was not just a case of addiction,
but a carefully designed system…

कहानी की शुरुआत एक अजीब और उलझी हुई समस्या से होती है, जब अजीत का पुराना दोस्त, डॉक्टर मोहन, ब्योमकेश से मदद मांगता है। उसका मरीज नंदुलाल बाबू एक अमीर लेकिन बेहद चिड़चिड़ा और बिगड़ैल स्वभाव का आदमी है, जो अपनी उम्र और कमजोर शरीर के बावजूद एक खतरनाक नशे—“मकड़ी के रस”—का आदी है। यह एक जहरीला पदार्थ है, जिसे थोड़ी मात्रा में लेने पर उत्तेजना मिलती है, लेकिन धीरे-धीरे यह जानलेवा साबित हो सकता है।
समस्या यह है कि नंदुलाल बाबू बिस्तर से उठ भी नहीं सकते, उनके कमरे पर 24 घंटे निगरानी रहती है, घर में किसी बाहरी व्यक्ति को आने की इजाज़त नहीं है—फिर भी वह लगातार यह ज़हर ले रहे हैं। न डॉक्टर, न परिवार—कोई भी यह समझ नहीं पा रहा कि यह नशा उनके पास पहुंचता कैसे है।
अजीत पहले उनके घर जाकर हालात देखता है। नंदुलाल बाबू बेहद बदतमीज़, गुस्सैल और असहनीय व्यक्ति हैं। वह दिन-रात गंदी-गंदी बातें लिखते रहते हैं, लाल और काली स्याही के पेन से। कमरे में चारों तरफ कागज बिखरे रहते हैं, और हर हफ्ते उनके नाम रजिस्ट्री से नए कागज आते हैं।
शुरुआत में शक घर के लोगों पर जाता है—उनके बेटे, पत्नी या नौकर पर। फिर शक एक महिला पर जाता है, जिसे नंदुलाल बाबू पैसे भेजते हैं। लेकिन हर सुराग अधूरा साबित होता है।
धीरे-धीरे ब्योमकेश को कुछ अजीब बातें समझ आने लगती हैं—
क्यों हर हफ्ते रजिस्ट्री से “कोरे कागज” आते हैं?
जबकि इतने कागज पहले से मौजूद हैं?
और एक और बात—
नंदुलाल बाबू की जीभ हमेशा लाल रहती है…
जबकि वह पान भी नहीं खाते।
यहीं से रहस्य खुलने लगता है।
ब्योमकेश समझ जाता है कि असली चाल कहीं और है—ऐसी जगह, जहां सबकी नजर जाती है… लेकिन कोई शक नहीं करता।
अब सच्चाई सामने लाने के लिए एक छोटा सा कदम उठाया जाता है—
नंदुलाल बाबू का लाल स्याही वाला फाउंटेन पेन हटा दिया जाता है।
और उसके बाद जो होता है…
वह यह साबित कर देता है कि नशा कैसे, कब और किसके जरिए उनके पास पहुंच रहा था।
अब सवाल सिर्फ इतना नहीं है कि नशा कहां से आया—
बल्कि यह भी है कि इतने समय तक…
सबकी आंखों के सामने सच छुपा कैसे रहा।
