The story plot is 1932.
The story begins when Byomkesh Bakshi and Ajit receive a mysterious letter from a wealthy zamindar, Kumar Tridibendra Narayan. The letter is urgent and secretive—he requests Byomkesh’s help in a delicate matter and even sends money in advance, suggesting the seriousness of the situation. Curious and intrigued, Byomkesh and Ajit travel to his estate to uncover the truth.
Upon arrival, they learn about the Seemant Heera, a priceless diamond that has been in the family for generations. It is not just valuable in terms of money—it is considered a symbol of the family’s legacy and fortune. According to tradition, as long as the diamond remains with the family, their lineage will prosper. But now, the diamond has been stolen.
The shocking part is that the zamindar already knows who took it—his own uncle, Sir Digindra Narayan, a brilliant but eccentric scientist and artist living in Calcutta. Instead of reporting the theft to the police, the zamindar wants the matter handled quietly, to avoid public scandal.
Byomkesh accepts the challenge.
He and Ajit travel to Calcutta and, using false identities, manage to gain access to Digindra’s house. The place is filled with artistic sculptures, rare objects, and intricate creations—each piece reflecting the mind of a genius. But Digindra himself is no ordinary man. He is sharp, observant, and suspicious. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that Byomkesh is not who he claims to be.
Instead of throwing them out, Digindra does something unexpected—he allows them complete freedom inside his house. He even challenges Byomkesh, almost mockingly, to find the diamond if he can.
Now the game truly begins.
Byomkesh carefully studies everything—the layout of the house, the objects, Digindra’s habits, and most importantly, his personality. He realizes that the diamond must be hidden in plain sight—somewhere so obvious that no one would suspect it.
Among all the objects, one particular sculpture draws his attention—a beautifully crafted Nataraja statue made by Digindra himself. There’s something about the way Digindra reacts to it… something possessive, almost protective.
As days pass, Byomkesh grows more certain that the diamond is hidden within one of these artistic creations. But Digindra is always watching, always one step ahead, making it nearly impossible to act openly.
Time is running out. The zamindar expects results within a week. Digindra remains confident, almost amused. And the diamond… remains hidden in plain sight. Now, it becomes a battle of intellect— between a man who hides the truth in brilliance… and a man who exists only to uncover it.

सबसे चौंकाने वाली बात यह है कि जमींदार को पता है कि हीरा किसने चुराया है—उनके अपने चाचा, सर दिगेंद्र नारायण, जो एक महान वैज्ञानिक और कलाकार हैं। पुलिस को खबर नहीं दी गई, क्योंकि यह मामला परिवार की इज्जत से जुड़ा हुआ है। इसलिए ब्योमकेश को चुपचाप यह काम सौंपा जाता है कि वह हीरा वापस लाए।
ब्योमकेश और अजीत कलकत्ता पहुंचते हैं और नकली पहचान के साथ दिगेंद्र के घर में प्रवेश करते हैं। वह घर किसी संग्रहालय से कम नहीं—चारों तरफ मूर्तियां, कलाकृतियां और अनोखी चीजें भरी हुई हैं। लेकिन दिगेंद्र खुद भी उतने ही असाधारण और चालाक हैं। उन्हें जल्दी ही शक हो जाता है कि ये दोनों साधारण लोग नहीं हैं।

ब्योमकेश हर चीज को ध्यान से देखने लगता है—घर का हर कोना, हर वस्तु, और सबसे ज्यादा दिगेंद्र का व्यवहार। उसे एहसास होता है कि हीरा कहीं छुपा नहीं, बल्कि सामने ही रखा है—बस पहचानना मुश्किल है।
इसी दौरान उसकी नजर एक खास मूर्ति पर जाती है—नटराज की एक खूबसूरत मूर्ति, जिसे खुद दिगेंद्र ने बनाया है। दिगेंद्र का उस मूर्ति के प्रति खास लगाव और सतर्कता ब्योमकेश को सोचने पर मजबूर कर देती है।
दिन बीतते जाते हैं, लेकिन हीरा अब भी नहीं मिलता। समय तेजी से निकल रहा है… जमींदार को जवाब चाहिए… और दिगेंद्र अब भी आत्मविश्वास से भरे हुए हैं… अब यह सिर्फ एक चोरी का मामला नहीं रहा— यह दो तेज दिमागों के बीच की टक्कर है… जहां एक ने सच को छुपाया है— और दूसरा उसे सामने लाने के लिए तैयार है।
