The Tiwari family was a happy family. The younger daughter, Bharati, was about to get married. The elder daughter, Neeta, had come to her parents’ home with her six-year-old daughter, Mukti, to help with the wedding preparations. On December 16, 2014, Neeta and Bharati left home with Mukti for shopping. They never returned.
Two days later, police found two female bodies near a drain in Faheemnagar. Both women had been strangled. Their jewelry was intact, suggesting robbery was not the motive. However, they were wearing oversized men’s clothing, possibly to mislead investigators. Their bodies had started decomposing, so police cremated them after taking samples for forensic analysis.
When the families finally came forward, they identified the victims as Neeta and Bharati. But six-year-old Mukti was missing. Investigation revealed that Neeta’s husband, Deepak, had not called her for three days before the murder. Bharati’s fiancé, Ankit Mathur, had also stopped calling her after the first week of December. Both men had alibis, but their sudden silence was suspicious.
Police then discovered that Bharati had run away from home a year and a half earlier with a man named Naresh Prasad. Her family had convinced her to return, and she later agreed to marry Ankit. Naresh had been working as a security guard but disappeared from his job on December 17—the day after the murders. Police now suspect Naresh is the killer, and Mukti’s whereabouts remain unknown.

दो दिन बाद पुलिस को फहीमनगर के नाले के पास दो महिलाओं की लाशें मिलीं। दोनों का गला घोंटकर हत्या की गई थी। उनके गहने सुरक्षित थे, जिससे लूट का मकसद नहीं लगता था। लेकिन दोनों के शरीर पर मर्दों के ओवरसाइज़ कपड़े थे, शायद जांच को गुमराह करने के लिए। लाशें सड़ने लगी थीं, इसलिए पुलिस ने फोरेंसिक सैंपल लेने के बाद उनका अंतिम संस्कार कर दिया।
जब परिवार वाले आगे आए, तो उन्होंने पीड़ितों की पहचान नीता और भारती के रूप में की। लेकिन छह साल की मुक्ती गायब थी। जांच में पता चला कि नीता के पति दीपक ने हत्या से पहले तीन दिनों तक उसे फोन नहीं किया था। भारती के मंगेतर अंकित माथुर ने भी दिसंबर के पहले हफ्ते के बाद उसे फोन करना बंद कर दिया था। दोनों के पास बहाने थे, लेकिन उनकी अचानक चुप्पी संदिग्ध थी।
पुलिस को तब पता चला कि भारती डेढ़ साल पहले नरेश प्रसाद नामक व्यक्ति के साथ घर से भाग गई थी। परिवार ने उसे समझाकर वापस बुला लिया था, जिसके बाद वह अंकित से शादी के लिए राजी हो गई। नरेश एक सिक्योरिटी गार्ड के रूप में काम करता था, लेकिन 17 दिसंबर—हत्या के अगले दिन—से वह काम पर नहीं आया। पुलिस को शक है कि नरेश ही हत्यारा है, और मुक्ती का अभी भी कोई पता नहीं है।
