Archana Palangdar Murder Case (2018)
Archana Palangdar, a 35-year-old resident of Jawaharlal Dutta Road, Uludanga in Kolkata, lived with her family and two children. Her son was studying in class 8 and her daughter in class 3, while her husband Pintu worked at a car servicing company in Kalikapur.
On 21 September 2018, a shocking discovery was made when her body was found wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a jute sack in a drain in Anandpur. The identification was confirmed four days later through a photograph published in the newspaper.
Last Known Movements
A day before her body was discovered, Archana had left her home saying she was going to get her mobile phone repaired. However, she never returned. According to her husband Pintu, he was not at home at the time she left.
A neighbor later confirmed seeing Archana shopping in the market that same day. She appeared completely normal, with no indication of any impending incident.
Identification and Postmortem Findings
Archana’s family identified her after seeing her photograph in the newspaper. The postmortem report later confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation.
Family Statements and Missing Complaint
Her mother-in-law stated that after seeing the photograph, she immediately approached the police station. When Archana did not return home, a missing complaint had already been filed, but no leads were found at that time.
Investigation and Phone Records
During the investigation, police examined Archana’s call records. Her son revealed that she often spoke to a man late at night. Authorities identified two individuals from her phone records—one whom she met through Facebook and another who was an old acquaintance.
Based on preliminary findings, police suspected that Archana may have been in close contact with both individuals, and this could be a possible motive behind the crime.
Past Disputes and Suspicions
Investigators also found that Archana had filed a domestic violence case against her husband and family members three years earlier, which was later withdrawn.
Pintu stated that she may have been influenced by someone at the time but later realized her mistake and withdrew the complaint. However, police noted that Archana had been in frequent contact with an unidentified person in recent times.
This strained relationship between the couple led to suspicion also falling on her husband during the investigation.
