49-year-old Meena Awasthi (played by Trishna Mukherjee) received a life sentence 19 years ago in a murder case. She was convicted based on circumstantial evidence. The case could have been challenged in the High Court 19 years ago, but no one did because no one came forward to take responsibility for the case—neither her husband nor her father-in-law.
When Meena went to prison, she was pregnant, and her son Madhav was born in the jail itself. Later, he was sent to a children’s home. Now Madhav has grown up and works in a cloth factory. He often visits his mother in jail and wants to bring her out of there. One of Meena’s companions in jail is getting bail and tells her about a lawyer from Allahabad Court, Satyaved Dixit, who took her case. Meena tells Madhav about Satyaved, and Madhav goes to meet him.
Satyaved reviews the entire case history and assures Madhav that his mother will soon be released.
मीना अवस्थी को 19 साल पहले एक कत्ल के जुर्म में उम्रकैद की सजा हुई थी। जब वो जेल गई तब प्रेग्नेंट थी और सजा के पहले ही साल में उसने एक बच्चे को जन्म दिया था। उस बच्चे का नाम माधव रखा गया और पैदा होने के कुछ साल बाद उसे बाल गृह में भेज दिया गया। माधव अब एक कपड़ा फैक्ट्री में काम करता है। वो अक्सर अपनी माँ से मिलने जाता रहता है और उसकी इच्छा है कि वो अपनी माँ को जेल से निकलवा सके।
मीना के साथ की एक महिला जेल से निकलने वाली है। वो मीना को वकील सत्यवेद के बारे में बताती है जिनकी मदद से बिना किसी खर्चे के वो जेल से निकल रही है। मीना इन वकील के बारे में माधव को बताती है और माधव सत्यवेद से मिलने इलाहाबाद जाता है।
सत्यवेद मीना के केस की सारी जानकारी इकट्ठा करते हैं और बताते हैं कि मीना को 1993 में परिस्थितिजनक साक्ष्यों के आधार पर सजा दी गई थी। ये केस हाईकोर्ट में 19 साल पहले ही लड़ा जा सकता था मगर तब कोई सामने नहीं आया, न माधव के पिता और न ही बाबा। सत्यवेद पूरे केस को समझने के बाद माधव को आश्वस्त करते हैं कि मीना जल्दी ही जेल से बाहर निकलेगी।
