RG Kar Medical College Case: A Doctor’s Tragic Story and the Fight for Justice
9 अगस्त 2024 की सुबह कोलकाता के आरजी कर मेडिकल कॉलेज और अस्पताल में एक ऐसी घटना सामने आई, जिसने पूरे देश को झकझोर कर रख दिया। अस्पताल में ड्यूटी कर रही 31 वर्षीय महिला डॉक्टर का शव अस्पताल के सेमिनार हॉल में मिला। वह एक होनहार डॉक्टर थीं और अपने भविष्य को संवारने के लिए दिन-रात मेहनत कर रही थीं। लेकिन उस रात उनके साथ जो हुआ, उसने हर किसी को स्तब्ध कर दिया।
शुरुआती जांच में सामने आया कि डॉक्टर के साथ यौन हिंसा की गई थी और गला घोंटकर उनकी हत्या कर दी गई थी। इस घटना के बाद पुलिस ने जांच शुरू की और संजय रॉय नाम के एक नागरिक पुलिस स्वयंसेवक को गिरफ्तार किया। मामले की गंभीरता और जांच को लेकर उठे सवालों के बाद कलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट ने जांच केंद्रीय जांच ब्यूरो (CBI) को सौंप दी।
जैसे-जैसे जांच आगे बढ़ी, मामला पूरे देश में चर्चा का विषय बन गया। डॉक्टरों, मेडिकल छात्रों और आम नागरिकों ने सड़कों पर उतरकर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। उनकी मांग थी कि पीड़िता को न्याय मिले और अस्पतालों में काम करने वाली महिलाओं की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित की जाए। इस घटना ने देशभर में कार्यस्थलों पर महिलाओं की सुरक्षा को लेकर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए।
मामले की सुनवाई कोलकाता की सियालदह अदालत में हुई। सीबीआई ने जांच के दौरान जुटाए गए सबूत अदालत के सामने रखे। पीड़िता के परिवार ने भी जांच को लेकर कई सवाल उठाए और पूरी सच्चाई सामने लाने की मांग की।
18 जनवरी 2025 को अदालत ने संजय रॉय को दोषी ठहराया। दो दिन बाद उसे उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई गई। हालांकि, इस फैसले के बाद भी पीड़िता के परिवार की ओर से मामले के अन्य पहलुओं की जांच की मांग जारी रही। यह घटना आज भी महिलाओं की सुरक्षा और न्याय व्यवस्था से जुड़े कई महत्वपूर्ण सवालों की याद दिलाती है।

On the morning of August 9, 2024, a shocking incident came to light at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The body of a 31-year-old female doctor was found inside a seminar room at the hospital. She was a hardworking young doctor who had dedicated her life to helping others. But that night, her life came to a tragic end.
The initial investigation revealed that she had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death. Kolkata Police began investigating the case and arrested Sanjay Roy, a civic police volunteer, in connection with the crime. However, serious questions were raised about the investigation, and the Calcutta High Court later transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
As the investigation continued, the case sparked nationwide outrage. Doctors, medical students, and ordinary citizens took to the streets demanding justice for the victim. They also called for better safety measures for women working in hospitals. The incident brought the issue of women’s safety at workplaces into the national spotlight.
The trial took place at the Sealdah court in Kolkata, where the CBI presented evidence collected during its investigation. The victim’s family also raised questions about certain aspects of the investigation and continued to demand that the complete truth be revealed.
On January 18, 2025, the court found Sanjay Roy guilty. Two days later, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. However, the victim’s family continued to seek further investigation into other aspects of the case.
The RG Kar case remains a painful reminder of the challenges women face in ensuring their safety, even in places where they work to save lives. It also highlights the importance of a fair investigation and the need for justice for every victim.
