Crime Patrol | Gangaram brutally killed in front of village (Episode 110 on 12th May 2012)

Untouchability | छुआ-छूत

From the era of Lord Rama, who accepted berries from Shabri, to Mahatma Gandhi, many prominent figures have set examples by standing against untouchability (छुआ-छूत). Despite these efforts, a significant section of society still practices this form of discrimination. In many places, Dalits are discouraged from forming relationships with people from upper castes, and even their presence is considered unacceptable. They are often forced to use separate pathways instead of common roads to avoid contact with others.

Gangaram, whose real name is Paras Nath Patel and who is portrayed by Shakti Singh, belongs to the OBC community and does not believe in untouchability. However, the Panchayat of Kuruthwa village constantly opposes his views and repeatedly pressures him to sever ties with Dalit residents of the village. When his old friend Amarjit, a Dalit, invites him to attend his daughter’s wedding, Gangaram faces a difficult social challenge.

This story highlights the discrimination still faced by Dalits in parts of India despite decades of social reform efforts. It also showcases the courage of individuals like Gangaram, who choose to stand against injustice and refuse to follow discriminatory practices.
