अमीर और सख्त स्वभाव वाले बेनीमाधव का विशाल बंगला बाहर से जितना शांत दिखाई देता था, अंदर उतना ही लालच, डर और रहस्यों से भरा हुआ था। परिवार के लगभग सभी सदस्य उनकी दौलत पर निर्भर थे, लेकिन बेनीमाधव को शक होने लगा था कि कोई उन्हें धीरे-धीरे रास्ते से हटाना चाहता है। खाने के बाद उनकी तबीयत लगातार बिगड़ने लगी, जिसके कारण उन्होंने अपने पुराने नौकर मेघराज और उसकी पत्नी बनकर आई फूलवती को रसोई की जिम्मेदारी सौंप दी।

एक रात बेनीमाधव पूरे परिवार को बुलाकर अपनी वसीयत का ऐलान करते हैं। बेटी गायत्री, दामाद गंगाधर, बेटा अजय, पोता मकरंद और रिश्तेदार सनत व निखिल उनकी बातें सुनकर हैरान रह जाते हैं। बेनीमाधव साफ कह देते हैं कि अगर उनकी मौत सामान्य नहीं हुई, तो परिवार में किसी को भी उनकी संपत्ति का एक पैसा नहीं मिलेगा।

उसी रात बंगले में कई अजीब घटनाएँ होती हैं। मकरंद देर रात चोरी-छिपे घर आता है। सनत कहीं गायब हो जाता है। आधी रात को फूलवती किसी के लिए दरवाजा खोलती दिखाई देती है। और अगली सुबह पूरे घर में सनसनी फैल जाती है — बेनीमाधव और मेघराज दोनों की बेरहमी से हत्या हो चुकी होती है। दोनों का गला एक तेज उस्तरे से काटा गया था।

मामले की जांच के लिए मशहूर जासूस ब्योमकेश बख्शी को बुलाया जाता है। जांच के दौरान उन्हें कई चौंकाने वाले सुराग मिलते हैं — गायब रेनकोट, उस्तरे से मिटाए गए उंगलियों के निशान, गुमनाम प्रेम पत्र, छिपे हुए रिश्ते और फूलवती का रहस्यमयी श्रृंगार का बक्सा।

धीरे-धीरे हर सदस्य शक के घेरे में आने लगता है। मकरंद का गुस्सैल व्यवहार, गंगाधर की घबराहट और सनत की रहस्यमयी हरकतें ब्योमकेश का शक और गहरा कर देती हैं। वहीं निखिल को मिलने वाले गुमनाम प्रेम पत्र इस केस को और उलझा देते हैं।

जांच के दौरान ब्योमकेश फरीदाबाद पहुँचते हैं, जहाँ उन्हें मेघराज और फूलवती के अतीत से जुड़ा ऐसा सच पता चलता है जो पूरे मामले को नई दिशा दे देता है। अब उन्हें समझ आने लगता है कि यह हत्या केवल दौलत के लिए नहीं हुई थी। इसके पीछे छिपा था प्यार, धोखा, जलन और एक खतरनाक जुनून।

आखिरकार ब्योमकेश सभी संदिग्धों को बेनीमाधव के कमरे में इकट्ठा करते हैं और हत्या की परतें खोलना शुरू करते हैं। लेकिन तभी एक ऐसा राज सामने आता है, जो पूरी कहानी को और भी रहस्यमयी बना देता है।

क्या बेनीमाधव और मेघराज का असली कातिल परिवार का ही कोई सदस्य था?
क्या इन हत्याओं के पीछे लालच था या अधूरा प्यार?
और आखिर वह कौन था जो इस हवेली में सबसे बड़ा रहस्य छिपाए बैठा था?

The peaceful mansion of wealthy businessman Benimadhav suddenly turns into a house filled with fear, greed, and suspicion. Surrounded by family members who secretly depend on his fortune, Benimadhav begins suspecting that someone inside the house wants him dead. His health worsens mysteriously after meals, forcing him to hire his trusted servant Meghraj and Meghraj’s newly arrived wife Phoolwati to manage the kitchen.

One evening, Benimadhav gathers the entire family and announces his final will. His daughter Gayatri, son-in-law Gangadhar, son Ajay, grandson Makrand, and relatives Sanat and Nikhil are left shocked after hearing the strict conditions attached to his property. Benimadhav warns everyone that if his death is found unnatural, not a single member of the family will receive his wealth.

That same night, strange movements are noticed inside the mansion. Makrand secretly returns home late at night. Sanat disappears mysteriously. Phoolwati opens the door for someone after midnight. And before sunrise, the mansion witnesses a horrifying crime — both Benimadhav and Meghraj are found murdered with their throats slit by a sharp razor.

Inspector Rakhal calls the famous detective Byomkesh Bakshi to investigate the brutal double murder. As Byomkesh studies the house carefully, he notices several disturbing clues — missing raincoats, erased fingerprints on an old razor, anonymous love letters, hidden relationships, and a stolen makeup box belonging to Phoolwati.

Meanwhile, family tensions continue growing. Makrand behaves aggressively, Gangadhar appears nervous, and Sanat hides secrets of his own. Even innocent-looking Nikhil becomes suspicious after Byomkesh discovers mysterious romantic letters sent to him by an unknown girl.

The investigation takes a shocking turn when Byomkesh travels to Faridabad and uncovers hidden truths about Meghraj and Phoolwati’s past. Slowly, the detective realizes that the murders were not committed merely for wealth. Love, jealousy, betrayal, and obsession had silently poisoned the mansion long before the murders happened.

As all suspects gather inside Benimadhav’s drawing room, Byomkesh finally reveals the terrifying chain of events behind the murders. But just when the truth seems ready to come out completely, another hidden secret about the anonymous love letters changes everything once again.
