पुलिस को वर्षों से बंद पड़ी एक फैक्ट्री में एक व्यक्ति की लाश मिलती है। उसका चेहरा बुरी तरह कुचला गया है, जिससे पहचान करना मुश्किल हो जाता है। मृतक की जेब में कुछ अगरबत्तियाँ मिलती हैं और उसके हाथ पर एक टैटू बना होता है, जिस पर उसका नाम “अशोक गुप्ता” लिखा होता है।
एक पुलिस कांस्टेबल लाश को देखकर पहचानने का दावा करता है। वह बताता है कि पास ही उसकी ससुराल है और मृतक अशोक गुप्ता नाम का व्यक्ति है, जिसकी इलाके में एक किराने की दुकान हुआ करती थी। जब पुलिस दुकान की जांच करती है, तो पता चलता है कि अशोक ने वह दुकान दो वर्ष पहले ही बेच दी थी।

Police find the body of a middle-aged man whose face has been badly disfigured. Investigators discover incense sticks in his pocket and a tattoo bearing the name “Ashok Gupta” on his hand. A police constable informs his senior officers that he recognizes the deceased as Ashok Gupta, a former provision store owner.
When the police visit the locality, they learn that Ashok had sold his shop two years earlier. His son and daughter are called to identify the body, and both confirm that the deceased is their father.
The postmortem report reveals that the victim was murdered five days before the body was discovered. This raises further questions for investigators, who ask Ashok’s son why no missing person complaint was filed despite his father being absent for several days.
