2017 का चौबीसवाँ केस | Case 24/2017
Priyanka Jha is a student preparing for Bank PO exams. She informs the police that she was sexually assaulted by three young men while searching for an auto-rickshaw outside a railway station.
Priyanka was returning to Rajpura after appearing for her Bank PO examination. It was midnight, and she was searching for transportation to reach her hostel. When she could not find any conveyance, she asked an auto-rickshaw driver to drop her there. The auto-rickshaw was already carrying two young men who continuously stared at her throughout the journey.
When Priyanka realized that the driver had taken the vehicle in the wrong direction, she tried to stop him. However, after reaching a deserted street, the three men assaulted her one after another. They also attempted to kill her by forcing pesticide into her mouth but failed. The attackers recorded a video clip of the victim and threatened to make it viral on the internet if she reported the crime to anyone.
After the incident came into the media spotlight, the entire city was shaken. The case reminded many people of the Nirbhaya case because the accused also attempted to kill the victim. During the investigation, police discovered that none of the CCTV cameras in the city were functioning that night, making it difficult to identify the culprits.
Following the medical examination, the police asked Priyanka to help prepare sketches of the accused.
