16 साल में 5 हत्याएं, जिनमें 3 हत्याओं के बारे में पुलिस को कभी कुछ पता ही नहीं चल पाया। असल में इन तीनों मृतकों के शव इस हाल में मिले थे कि पोस्टमॉर्टेम में भी यह खुलासा नहीं हो पाया कि इनकी हत्या की गई होगी। पुलिस के हाथ इस वारदात की एक कड़ी तब लगी जब उनको 2014 में हुई एक हत्या के बारे में पता चला। एक तरह से देखा जाए तो यह केस दूसरे मामलों से एक बात में उल्टा था। वैसे तो कोई वारदात होने के बाद पुलिस अपने खबरियों को काम पर लगाती है ताकि वे कुछ सुराग ढूंढकर लाएं, मगर इस केस में उल्टा हुआ था। एक खबरी ने खुद पुलिस को यह खबर दी थी कि उसने एक शराब के ठेके पर दो लोगों को बात करते हुए सुना था कि उन्होंने 2014 में एक हत्या करके लाश को रेल की पटरी पर लिटा दिया था, जिससे ट्रेन के उसके ऊपर से निकल जाने की वजह से उसका सिर पूरी तरह खत्म हो गया था।

यह सारी बात बैंगलोर के एक कस्बे केंगरी की है और पुलिस के एक खबरी को इसी साल 2014 में की गई इस हत्या के बारे में पता चला था। इसके बाद उसने पुलिस को इसके बारे में बताया और फिर सारी तफ्तीश के दौरान इसी साल 7 जून को police ने सात अभियुक्तों को गिरफ्तार किया।

जब इस खबरी ने पुलिस को 2014 में घटे इस वाकये के बारे में बताया तो पुलिस ने 2014 की फाइल्स में यह तलाशना शुरू किया कि क्या सच में कोई लाश केंगरी रेलवे ट्रैक पर पाई गई थी। अगर पाई गई थी तो कोई एक्शन क्यों नहीं लिया गया? पुलिस को UDR यानी UNIDENTIFIED DEATH REPORT से जुड़ी रिपोर्ट मिली, जिसमें एक आदमी का खाली धड़ रेलवे ट्रैक पर मिला था। इस लाश से संबंधित कोई मिसिंग कंप्लेंट न मिलने पर पुलिस ने इस केस को बंद करके लाश का दाह संस्कार करवा दिया था।

पोस्टमॉर्टेम रिपोर्ट में सिर न होने की वजह से यह पता ही नहीं चल पाया कि इसको गला घोंटकर मारा गया था। पुलिस को लगा कि यह एक आम एक्सीडेंटल केस है क्योंकि लाश में से पुलिस को भारी मात्रा में अल्कोहल मिला था, जिससे यह लग रहा था कि यह आदमी पटरी क्रॉस करने के समय ट्रेन की चपेट में आ गया होगा। पुलिस के लिए अब अगला चैलेंज था कि इस मृतक को कैसे आइडेंटिफाई किया जाए। पुलिस ने पहले तो उसी दिन और उसके पहले और बाद की मिसिंग लोगों की फाइल्स निकलवाईं, जिनमें उनको कुछ नहीं मिला। इसके बाद पुलिस ने केंगरी और उसके आस-पास के इलाके में अपने खबरियों को लगा दिया था। आखिरकार एक मिलता-जुलता मिसिंग केस पुलिस के सामने आया। यह केस था सुरेश नाम के आदमी की गुमशुदगी का। सुरेश एक लोअर क्लास फैमिली से संबंध रखता था, जो 2014 में अचानक अपने घर से गायब हो गया था… Know More

In 16 years, there were 5 murders, out of which police could never uncover anything about 3 of them. In fact, the condition of the bodies was so bad that even the postmortem reports failed to reveal that they had been murdered. Police finally got a clue in one such case after receiving information about a murder that took place in 2014. In a way, this case was different from others because instead of police asking informers to find clues, an informer himself approached the police. He told them that he had overheard two men talking at a liquor shop about how they had murdered a man in 2014 and placed his body on a railway track so that a train would crush his head completely.

This incident took place in Kengeri, a town near Bangalore. After receiving the information, police started investigating the case and eventually arrested seven accused on June 7 of the same year.

When police checked the 2014 records, they found a UDR (Unidentified Death Report) related to a headless body discovered on the Kengeri railway track. Since there was no missing complaint linked to the body, the case had been closed and the body was cremated.

The postmortem report could not determine that the victim had been strangled because the head was missing. Police initially believed it was a railway accident, especially because a large amount of alcohol was found in the victim’s body. It appeared as if the man had been hit by a train while crossing the tracks.

The next challenge for police was identifying the victim. They checked missing person reports from the same period but found nothing useful. Informers were then deployed around Kengeri and nearby areas. Eventually, police came across a matching missing person case involving a man named Suresh. Suresh belonged to a lower-class family and had suddenly disappeared from his home in 2014.
