Case 79/2017
Mahima Mistry (played by Aparajita Bajaj) is a responsible employee in the government’s PWD department who lives alone in rented accommodation. One day, when she is absent from the office, her colleagues are surprised because she always informs them whenever she takes leave.
On the same morning, a rag-picker in the area notices that the door of Mahima’s house is closed. He finds it unusual when the same situation continues the next day. Curious, he tries to look inside through the window and sees Mahima lying on the floor. He immediately informs other residents of the colony, and the police are called.
The police find Mahima dead. The initial investigation suggests that she was strangled. Her body is sent for postmortem. The police do not find anything missing from her home—her jewelry and money are untouched—indicating that the murderer did not come to rob her, but had a specific reason to kill her.

Further investigation reveals that Mahima was a divorcee. She had separated from her husband just a few months after marriage, and it has been seven years since then. The police also discover that Mahima used to lend money at low interest to people she knew. In fact, she wasn’t paying any rent, as her landlord, Laxman, had borrowed a large sum from her and was paying her interest every month. Later, the police learn that Mahima had lent money to several other people in her office and neighborhood.
This information puzzles the police: how could a woman earning around ₹22,000 per month, with no wealthy background or significant assets, have enough money to lend to others?
The police receive another shock when they find a pendrive containing a few obscene videos recorded by Mahima herself. Now, they suspect that she might have been blackmailing some people using these videos, which could have led to her murder.
