कोलकाता शहर में अचानक अजीबोगरीब हत्याओं का सिलसिला शुरू हो जाता है। कुछ लोगों की लाशें ऐसी हालत में मिलती हैं कि उनके सीने को एक तेज साही के कांटे से आर-पार किया गया था। यह अनोखा हथियार देखकर पुलिस भी हैरान रह जाती है। अखबारों में इस रहस्यमयी हत्यारे को “साही का कांटा कातिल” कहा जाने लगता है।
इसी दौरान दीपा नाम की एक युवती अपनी शादीशुदा जिंदगी में घुट रही थी। परिवार के दबाव में उसकी शादी देवाशीष से कर दी गई थी, जबकि वह किसी और से प्यार करती थी। देवाशीष स्वभाव से अच्छा इंसान था, लेकिन दोनों के बीच एक अदृश्य दूरी हमेशा बनी रही।
दूसरी तरफ ब्योमकेश बख्शी को महसूस होता है कि ये हत्याएं उतनी बेतरतीब नहीं हैं जितनी दिखाई देती हैं। पहले एक भिखारी की हत्या होती है, फिर झील के पास एक और आदमी मारा जाता है। हर बार हत्यारा वही खौफनाक हथियार इस्तेमाल करता है — साही का कांटा।
मामला तब और खतरनाक हो जाता है जब देवाशीष पर भी जानलेवा हमला होता है। अब ब्योमकेश को यकीन हो जाता है कि इन हत्याओं का असली निशाना कोई खास व्यक्ति है। जांच के दौरान उन्हें दीपा के अतीत से जुड़ा नाम पता चलता है — प्रवाल गुप्ता। पुराने रिश्ते, अधूरा प्यार और छिपी भावनाएँ धीरे-धीरे सामने आने लगती हैं।
ब्योमकेश को एहसास होता है कि हत्यारा बेहद चालाक है। वह पागल सीरियल किलर होने का नाटक कर रहा है ताकि असली मकसद छिपा रहे। हर हत्या एक बड़े षड्यंत्र का हिस्सा लगने लगती है।
जांच के दौरान एक और चौंकाने वाला सच सामने आता है — देवाशीष का दिल सामान्य लोगों की तरह बाईं तरफ नहीं बल्कि दाईं तरफ है। यह रहस्य पूरे केस को नई दिशा दे देता है और ब्योमकेश समझ जाते हैं कि हत्यारा कोई बहुत पुराना हिसाब चुकाना चाहता है।

A series of bizarre murders shocks Calcutta when unknown victims are found dead with a sharp porcupine quill pierced through their chests. The strange weapon leaves the police confused, and newspapers begin calling the mysterious killer “The Porcupine Murderer.”
At the same time, a troubled young woman named Deepa is struggling in her unhappy marriage with Debashish. Forced into marriage by family pressure, Deepa secretly confesses that she once loved another man but was unable to escape society’s expectations. Though Debashish behaves kindly, an invisible distance remains between them.
Meanwhile, detective Byomkesh Bakshi notices that the strange murders may not be random at all. The first victims appeared unrelated — a beggar, a common man near the lake, and another mysterious death in the city. But one thing connected them all: the deadly porcupine quill.
Soon, the case becomes personal when Debashish himself narrowly escapes an attack. Someone clearly wants him dead. Byomkesh starts investigating Deepa’s past and discovers the name of Prabal Gupta, a man deeply connected to her before marriage. Old diaries, hidden emotions, and unfinished love stories slowly begin surfacing.
As Byomkesh digs deeper, he realizes the killer is extremely intelligent and carefully creating the illusion of a mad serial murderer. The random killings may actually be a cover for one specific target. Every clue points toward a dangerous conspiracy built on obsession, jealousy, and revenge.
The mystery grows darker when Byomkesh discovers that Debashish has a rare medical condition — his heart is located on the opposite side of his chest. This shocking detail changes the entire direction of the investigation and raises terrifying new questions.
