दो साहसी बच्चे | Two Daredevils

Year 2004, District – Kamrup, Assam
Ratul Chandra Rabha (as Ratan Viswas) and Rituparna Boro (as Arvind Das) are students of 8th and 10th class. One day, two unknown men (as Chiru and Gopi) carrying pistols and grenades enter the school campus and open fire on a teacher. The teacher and students chase them, and they are later identified as members of ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam), shown later as ALG.

At the time of the militant attack, Ratul and Rituparna do not get scared and chase the attackers for nearly 3 kilometers. Their bravery leads to the capture of one of the militants who killed their teacher.

Year 2005

Ratul and Rituparna receive the Rashtrapati Award (National Bravery Award) for chasing the militants who killed their school teacher in broad daylight, leading to the arrest of one of them.

Even after receiving the country’s highest bravery honour, both children are forced to discontinue their studies after a few years because of poverty.

Year 2012
Ratul (20) and Rituparna (22) are now living below the poverty line and working as daily wage labourers, earning hardly 120 rupees a day. Ratul says that the award has no meaning for him because his life remains as difficult as before. They had hoped to get government jobs in the Indian Army or state police department after receiving the bravery award, but they received nothing. They appealed to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and several politicians for help but received no positive response.
