A Journey of Life | जिंदगी का सफ़र
Another unusual story presented by Crime Patrol Dastak teaches us that humanity has no limitations, even when people come from different communities. Two individuals from different faiths meet each other on a bus, and this meeting changes their lives completely.
Father Sebastian, 41 (played by Iqbal Azad), was a Catholic priest from Kottayam, Kerala, while Rashad Mohammad, 30 (played by Saurabh Gogate), was from Alappuzha and urgently needed a kidney transplant. Rashad worked as a salesperson in the Gulf. His earnings were a major support for his family. His father ran a small stationery shop in Haripad, Alappuzha, and his brother also worked a small job there. Rashad’s parents suffered from severe diabetes, and during difficult times, his income was a great help.
In 2011, Rashad noticed that his eyesight was becoming weak. His eye examination report was normal. Another doctor advised a blood test, but his blood sugar and cholesterol levels were also normal. Further tests revealed that both of his kidneys had serious problems. He soon required a kidney transplant and regular dialysis. Rashad returned to India and began borrowing money from relatives and friends to continue treatment. His parents could not donate a kidney because they were diabetic heart patients, and his brother’s blood group was incompatible.
February 25, 2013, became an unforgettable day for Rashad when he met Father Sebastian on a bus while traveling to the hospital. By chance, he sat next to the priest. Years earlier, Father Sebastian had learned that a person could live with only one kidney. From that day, he decided that he would donate one of his kidneys to a deserving person.
“I was also inspired by the story of Father Davis Chiramel, who had donated one of his kidneys to a Hindu. I was waiting for the day when I could also make the same sacrifice.”

A person can donate a kidney to someone with the same blood group. When Father Sebastian asked Rashad about his blood group, he learned that Rashad was A+. The priest’s blood group was also A+. Doctors then conducted further compatibility tests. While a 65% match is generally considered sufficient, their medical reports showed an exceptional 95% match.
After completing the medical procedures, Rashad’s friends and relatives arranged approximately ₹5 lakh for the transplant operation.
“We may be following different faiths, but all of us should remember that there is only one God, and He represents love and kindness. In front of death, there is no religion. I sincerely hope nobody imposes their faith on others and nobody fights in the name of religion.”
“I am a Catholic priest from Chalakudy; Rashad is a Muslim from Haripad, and we met on a bus to Kochi. What a strange coincidence! Without God deciding it, how could this happen? Both of us believe strongly in our respective religions.”
“As per my religious beliefs, there is nothing greater than giving one’s life for someone else. God has given me the opportunity to give a part of my life to another person so that he may receive a new lease on life. I am speaking about this only because I would be blessed if it inspires even one more person.”
“Religion never came to my mind when I wanted to help Rashad; the only thoughts I had were of love, peace, brotherhood, and humanism.” – Father Sebastian
