This case, widely known as the Shakti Mill case, took place on 22 August 2013. The survivor was a 24-year-old photojournalist working for an English magazine. She was assaulted by five men, including one juvenile, inside the abandoned Shakti Mill compound located in the Mahalaxmi area of South Mumbai.

On the day of the incident, she was on an assignment with a male colleague. The attackers first assaulted her colleague with a belt and then tied him up. They subsequently took the survivor to another location within the compound and sexually assaulted her.

During the incident, she received calls from her mother. The attackers forced her to assure her mother that everything was fine. Later, they switched off her phone and continued the assault. They also threatened her with a broken beer bottle and warned her not to scream. Photographs were taken during the assault, and she was threatened that they would be made public if she reported the crime.

After the assault, the attackers brought the survivor back to her colleague and forced both of them to walk toward Mahalaxmi Station while the accused headed toward Lower Parel. Once they were safe, they contacted colleagues and informed them about the crime. They were taken to Jaslok Hospital, where the survivor narrated the incident to doctors and received immediate medical treatment. Her mother also reached the hospital.

The survivor gave her first statement to the police on 26 August and was discharged from the hospital on 27 August 2013.

Police also linked another case registered on 31 July 2013, in which a 19-year-old telephone operator was assaulted at the same location. Three of the accused were common to both incidents. In that case as well, the male companion was tied up and assaulted before the crime was committed.

Following the investigation, police detained around 20 people and identified three accused within 65 hours. Seven individuals were eventually charged, including two juveniles. Three accused were involved in both incidents.

Accused in the 22 August Incident: Vijay Jadhav, Mohd Kasim Hafiz Sheikh alias Kasim Bengali, Salim Ansari, Siraj Rehman, and one juvenile.

Accused in the 31 July Incident: Vijay Jadhav, Mohd Kasim Hafiz Sheikh alias Kasim Bengali, Salim Ansari, Mohd Ashfak Sheikh, and one juvenile.

Siraj Rehman initially evaded arrest but was later located in Thane Jail.

On 19 September 2013, police filed a 600-page chargesheet. The juvenile accused were tried separately under the Juvenile Justice system. Charges included Sections 376D, 377, 120B, 34, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

On 4 April 2014, the Mumbai Sessions Court awarded the death penalty to three of the accused who were involved in both incidents.

इस मामले को शक्ति मिल केस के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह घटना दक्षिण मुंबई के महालक्ष्मी क्षेत्र स्थित परित्यक्त शक्ति मिल परिसर में हुई थी। पीड़िता एक अंग्रेज़ी पत्रिका की 24 वर्षीय फोटो जर्नलिस्ट थी, जो अपने सहकर्मी के साथ असाइनमेंट पर गई थी। आरोपियों ने पहले उसके सहकर्मी को बेल्ट से पीटा और बांध दिया, फिर पीड़िता के साथ दुष्कर्म किया।

घटना के दौरान पीड़िता की माँ के फोन आते रहे। आरोपियों ने उसे अपनी माँ को यह बताने के लिए मजबूर किया कि सब कुछ ठीक है। बाद में उसका फोन बंद कर दिया गया। टूटी हुई बीयर की बोतल से उसे धमकाया गया और उसकी तस्वीरें भी ली गईं। उसे चेतावनी दी गई कि यदि उसने पुलिस को बताया तो तस्वीरें सार्वजनिक कर दी जाएँगी।

घटना के बाद पीड़िता और उसके सहकर्मी को रेलवे ट्रैक के पास छोड़ दिया गया। बाद में उन्होंने अपने साथियों और वरिष्ठों को सूचना दी तथा जसलोक अस्पताल पहुँचे, जहाँ पीड़िता का इलाज शुरू किया गया।

31 जुलाई 2013 को इसी स्थान पर एक 19 वर्षीय टेलीफोन ऑपरेटर के साथ भी इसी प्रकार की घटना हुई थी। दोनों मामलों में तीन आरोपी समान थे।

पुलिस ने लगभग 20 लोगों को हिरासत में लिया और 65 घंटे के भीतर प्रमुख आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया। कुल सात लोगों के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज किया गया, जिनमें दो नाबालिग थे।

19 सितम्बर 2013 को 600 पृष्ठों की चार्जशीट दायर की गई। आरोपियों पर भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 376D, 377, 120B, 34 और 201 के तहत आरोप लगाए गए।

4 अप्रैल 2014 को मुंबई सेशन कोर्ट ने तीन दोषियों को मृत्युदंड की सजा सुनाई।
