कल्पना तिवारी मेरठ के एक गांव में अपने पति और दो बेटियों, पायल और छाया, के साथ रहती थी। परिवार की आर्थिक स्थिति साधारण थी और घर में अक्सर तनाव का माहौल रहता था। एक दिन कल्पना ने अपनी दोनों बेटियों को तैयार होने के लिए कहा और बताया कि वे अपनी नानी के घर जा रही हैं। बच्चियां उत्साहित थीं, लेकिन उन्हें नहीं पता था कि यह सफर उनकी जिंदगी हमेशा के लिए बदल देगा।
कल्पना अपनी दोनों बेटियों को लेकर बिहार के एक शहर पहुंची। वहां वह चेतना विद्यालय नामक स्कूल में गई, जिसे प्रह्लाद ठाकुर अपने परिवार के साथ समर्पण भाव से चला रहे थे। कल्पना ने उनसे अनुरोध किया कि वे दोनों बच्चियों को अपने छात्रावास में रख लें और उनकी पढ़ाई की जिम्मेदारी संभाल लें।
उसने बताया कि उसका पति बेटियों को पसंद नहीं करता और ससुराल वाले भी उनकी पढ़ाई के खिलाफ हैं। वह हर महीने मिलने और फीस देने का वादा करती है। शुरुआत में प्रह्लाद ठाकुर इस प्रस्ताव को अस्वीकार कर देते हैं क्योंकि बच्चियां बहुत छोटी थीं, लेकिन कल्पना की विनती और उनकी बेहतर जिंदगी की उम्मीद को देखते हुए वह मान जाते हैं।
प्रह्लाद बच्चियों के जन्म प्रमाण पत्र मांगते हैं, लेकिन कल्पना कहती है कि अगली बार लेकर आएगी। इसके बाद वह वहां से चली जाती है और उसका फोन बंद हो जाता है।
कुछ समय बाद कल्पना वापस आती है, लेकिन तब भी जरूरी दस्तावेज नहीं लाती। वह बच्चियों से मिलती है, जल्द लौटने का वादा करती है और फिर गायब हो जाती है। इस बार वह लगभग एक वर्ष बाद लौटती है और बताती है कि उसका पति जेल में था, इसलिए वह नहीं आ सकी।
इसके बाद कल्पना फिर चली जाती है। समय बीतता जाता है, बच्चियां बड़ी होने लगती हैं, लेकिन उनकी मां कभी वापस नहीं आती। वर्षों तक प्रह्लाद ठाकुर और उनका परिवार ही उनका सहारा बनकर उनके पालन-पोषण और शिक्षा की जिम्मेदारी निभाते रहते हैं।

Prahlad Thakur, who had taken over the school after its founder Abhay Singh became occupied with family responsibilities, is hesitant because the girls are very young. However, after listening to Kalpana’s emotional appeal, he agrees to take responsibility for them.
Kalpana promises to visit every month and pay all expenses. Yet she repeatedly fails to provide the girls’ birth certificates and gradually stops maintaining contact. Sometimes she reappears unexpectedly, only to disappear again for months or even years.
The girls continue waiting for their mother, while Prahlad and his family care for them as their own children. As years pass, the mystery surrounding their parents grows deeper.
Based on a real Bihar incident, the case later gained national attention when Ashok Kumar Panday claimed that he was the biological father of Rimjhim and Anjali. According to him, his wife Namita Panday had abandoned the girls at the school years earlier. He maintained that illness had prevented him from meeting them and even offered to undergo a DNA test to prove his claim.
The story became widely discussed after the plight of the two girls reached public attention. Questions about identity, parenthood, abandonment, and responsibility turned the case into one of the most emotional Crime Patrol stories inspired by real events.
