Maharashtra police were dealing with two different cases involving the murders of elderly women. Both women were killed using the same modus operandi. They were poisoned through coconut water, and police found green coconuts near both bodies. In both cases, the victims’ necks were strangled after death.
Shanta Kamble’s husband, Prashant Tambe, told police that a prospective tenant was supposed to visit their house to inspect the property, and Shanta was happy to meet them. Prashant was not at home at that time, so he had no information about the couple. Police found an unknown number in Shanta’s mobile phone, but investigation revealed that it was registered using a fake identity and had never been used apart from this incident.
According to police, Shanta Tambe’s murder was believed to be the first in the series, but they were wrong. After the second murder of Padma Gaanvkar, police investigated further and discovered another similar case in their records. In that case, elderly woman Kavita Jadhav was strangled after she became unconscious, but the killer had used sleeping tablets mixed in coconut water instead of poison.
