On the evening of March 6, 2017, the Nirmal Cantonment area of Haridwar suddenly erupted with a burst of bullets. The scene of the murder of blanket merchant Amit Dixit, alias Goldie, suggested that this murder was carried out in a very planned manner. It was evident that the killers were very professional and successful in their mission. On the main road of the colony, these murderers managed to commit the crime and escape.

Amit Dixit often used to come home to drink tea in the evening. It was clear that the miscreants had first observed his movements for a few days and then seized the opportunity. Probably, these people stopped Amit Dixit when he came out of his house and then shot him, because by the time the police arrived, his scooty was still on. Some people said there were three shooters, and they had been walking behind the colony shortly before the attack. Five bullets from a .32 bore pistol were fired at Amit Dixit. Two bullets hit his chest, and one bullet struck his head. When Amit tried to get up by holding onto a pillar after being shot in the head, they fired indiscriminately again.

In the midst of this shootout, the thumb of one of his hands was also torn off by a bullet and almost disappeared. Anyone who heard about the murder of Amit Dixit rushed to the district hospital, causing a large crowd to gather there.

6 मार्च 2017 की शाम हरिद्वार की निर्मल छावनी अचानक गोलियों की तड़तड़ाहट से गूंज उठी। कंबल व्यापारी अमित दीक्षित उर्फ़ गोल्डी की हत्या का सीन चीख-चीख कर बयान कर रहा था कि ये हत्या बहुत ही सधे तरीक़े से की गई है। ज़ाहिर था कि हत्यारे बहुत ही प्रोफेशनल थे और वो अपने मकसद में कामयाब रहे। कॉलोनी की मेन रोड पर दुस्साहसिक तरीक़े से ये हत्यारे वारदात को अंजाम देकर भागने में कामयाब रहे।

अमित दीक्षित अक्सर शाम को अपने घर चाय पीने के लिए आते थे, इससे ये तो साफ़ था कि बदमाशों ने पहले तो उनकी रेकी की और फिर मौका मिलते ही वारदात को अंजाम दे दिया। उनके घर से निकलने पर संभवतः इन लोगों ने अमित दीक्षित को पहले रोका था और फिर गोली मारी थी, क्योंकि जब तक पुलिस पहुंची तो उनकी स्कूटी स्टार्ट ही थी। कुछ लोगों का कहना था कि शूटर 3 थे और वो कॉलोनी के पीछे कुछ देर पहले टहल रहे थे। अमित दीक्षित पर 32 बोर की पिस्टल से 5 गोलियाँ चलाई गई थीं। 2 गोलियाँ उनके सीने में और एक गोली सिर पर लगी थी। सिर पर गोली लगने के बाद जब अमित ने खंबा पकड़कर उठने की कोशिश की तो उन लोगों ने फिर से अंधाधुंध फायरिंग कर दी।

इसी गोलीबारी के बीच उनके एक हाथ के अंगूठे को भी एक गोली ने चीर दिया था और अंगूठा करीब-करीब गायब हो गया था। जिस किसी ने भी अमित दीक्षित की हत्या के बारे में सुना, वो ज़िला अस्पताल पहुंचा था, जिससे कि अस्पताल में लोगों का हुजूम उमड़ पड़ा था।
