Crime Patrol | Naach: Duo kidnapped kid for ransom to win a dance competition (Episode 628 on 28th February, 2016)

A tragic case from South-East Delhi’s Badarpur area revealed how ambition and poor judgment led to a serious crime involving minors. Two teenagers, both 17, were apprehended for kidnapping and killing a 13-year-old boy in an attempt to arrange money for a dance reality show.

Background of the Incident

The victim, Swapnesh Gupta, a Class 8 student, went missing on September 15 from outside his school in the Chuna Bhatti area. According to reports, he had been taking dance lessons from the two accused, whom he admired as mentors.

The teenagers reportedly aimed to participate in a popular dance reality show in Mumbai. They believed that paying an entry-related amount of Rs 60,000 would help them secure a place and possibly succeed in the competition.

How the Plan Unfolded

The duo approached Swapnesh and convinced him to accompany them to auditions in Rudrapur. During the journey, they stayed overnight near the Corbett National Park area after befriending a local resident.

At some point during the trip, the situation escalated after the child became aware of their intentions. The accused then decided to silence him. The incident took place in a remote area near Ranikhet in Uttarakhand, where the body was later found.

Missing Complaint and Investigation

On September 16, the boy’s father, Rajesh Gupta, filed a missing complaint. The police registered a kidnapping case and formed multiple teams to search across nearby states.

Four days later, the family received a ransom call demanding Rs 60,000. Initially ignored, the caller later provided specific details about the child, confirming the seriousness of the situation.

Police tracked the call location over several days. Eventually, the two suspects were located on a motorcycle at a designated ransom collection point.Instagram sensation Avneet Kaur

Confession and Recovery

During questioning, the teenagers admitted their involvement in the case. Following their confession, the authorities recovered the victim’s remains from the identified location.

After necessary procedures, the body was handed over to the family.

Additional Details

Investigations revealed that the accused had been working as dance trainers in areas such as Badarpur, Jaitpur, and Faridabad. The girl was pursuing a college degree, while the boy had dropped out after Class 12.

One of the accused had previously participated in a dance competition but was eliminated early, which reportedly influenced their decision-making.
