The Mysterious Disappearance of 15-year-old Panchhi
Twelve-year-old Panchhi lives with her mother Kumkum in a poor family in Jharkhand. Kumkum works in other people’s homes to support the family, while Panchhi remains a playful child with little understanding of the dangers around her. During this time, a young man named Ashwin befriends her. He tells Panchhi fascinating stories about Delhi, promises her a better life, and even talks about marriage and escaping the burdens of poverty. Despite her mother’s warnings, Panchi gradually begins trusting him.
One day, Panchhi disappears with Ashwin. Her devastated family searches for her, but they have neither a reliable address nor a phone number that can lead them to him. Meanwhile, Panchhi reaches Delhi believing she will soon live happily with Ashwin. Instead, he takes her to a household where she is expected to cook, clean, wash clothes, and perform endless domestic chores.
What Panchhi does not know is that Ashwin has secretly made a financial deal involving her, effectively selling the child into domestic servitude. As the days pass, Panchhi asks for her wages and desperately wants to return home, only to discover that Ashwin has vanished. Back in the village, Kumkum refuses to forget her daughter. Nearly a year after Panchhi disappeared, fate suddenly brings Ashwin within her reach, creating the first real chance to uncover where her child was taken.
झारखंड के एक गरीब परिवार की 12 साल की पंछी अपनी मां कुमकुम के साथ रहती है। कुमकुम लोगों के घरों में काम करके परिवार चलाती है, जबकि मासूम पंछी खेलना और बेफिक्र रहना चाहती है। इसी बीच गांव में आने-जाने वाला अश्विन उससे दोस्ती बढ़ाता है। वह पंछी को दिल्ली की चमकदार जिंदगी, अपनी पसंद से शादी और बेहतर भविष्य के सपने दिखाता है। मां की चेतावनियों के बावजूद पंछी धीरे-धीरे उसकी बातों में आ जाती है।
एक दिन अश्विन पंछी को गांव से लेकर निकल जाता है। परिवार को उसके गायब होने का पता चलता है तो कुमकुम बदहवास होकर उसे खोजने लगती है, लेकिन अश्विन का न सही पता मिलता है, न फोन नंबर। दूसरी ओर पंछी यह सोचकर दिल्ली पहुंचती है कि कुछ समय बाद वह अश्विन के साथ रहेगी। मगर वहां उसे एक परिवार के घर काम करने के लिए छोड़ दिया जाता है।
पंछी को मालूम नहीं कि अश्विन ने उसका सौदा कर दिया है। उससे घर की सफाई, बर्तन, कपड़े और खाना बनाने जैसे काम करवाए जाने लगते हैं। जब वह घर लौटने और अपनी मजदूरी मांगने की बात करती है, तो उसके सामने एक डरावनी सच्चाई के संकेत आने लगते हैं। उधर कुमकुम अपनी बेटी की तलाश छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं है। करीब एक साल बाद अचानक अश्विन उसके सामने आ जाता है—और पंछी तक पहुंचने की एक नई उम्मीद जागती है।
