The acid attack victim Sonali Mukherjee from Jharkhand was about to appear in season 6 of Kaun Banega Crorepati to raise money for her reconstructive surgery.
Big B had shared some pictures from the episode on his Facebook page album (Photo1, Photo2, Photo3). After 22 surgeries, she could finally hear and speak again after four years of the tragedy.
Big B wrote on Facebook on 1st Nov 2012:
“FB 14 – Much too disturbed by the event at KBC of ‘doosra mauka’ .. a second chance for those that have been unfortunate victims of trauma and violence … a young girl robbed of her entire body and youth by an acid attack on her .. her face destroyed, lost her eyes, lost her hearing, lost her voice for 4 years .. 22 reconstructive surgeries later, she can now speak and hear … full of grit and determination to seek not just justice, but to become an example of faith and strength for others that get inflicted with such atrocities ..”
“They that inflict such damage are not humans ..”
After this, he shared another photo of the show featuring Sonali, Lara, and himself, writing:
“FB 14 – Look what those monsters did to this pretty face … and destroyed her for life .. Sonali Mukherjee, the victim of an acid attack. Lara Dutta, who works for the cause of such women afflicted, stands by her side to assist her ..”
Showing another photo of Sonali’s disfigured face, he further added:
“FB 14 – More of Sonali on KBC tonight for the episode on ‘doosra mauka’ … the screen at the back shows a graphic picture of her after recovering with great grit after the attack .. damaged and deformed, but full of courage to fight this oppression and to try and live as normally as possible … 22 surgeries done to repair, can hear and talk now but cannot see .. the perpetrators of the crime out on bail and back into society .. horrendous !!”
Sony TV and Big Synergy approached Lara Dutta to play the game for her. This was the second time Lara represented someone on KBC. Earlier, she had appeared in an episode with tennis sensation Sania Mirza.
Kudos to KBC once again for playing a meaningful role for a social cause.

After playing the role of Sonali in the episode, Veebha could not get over the character. She said:
“When I went for the auditions for the same, I was shocked and terrified and was not in a position to say yes to the role. But as an actress, I felt I should take it up.”
She also revealed what it was like during the shoot:
“The makeup artist came to take the structure of my face. After that, I had to sit for a few hours with that terrible mask. I had to remain at one place without moving any facial muscles. That was really tough for me, and I felt like I was sitting alone in a dark room.”
You can still help Sonali by depositing some money into her father’s PNB account.
Here are all the details of Sonali’s case and her father’s bank account.
